The Jonah Group implements National Provider Identifiers for large health insurance client.
April 30, 2007 - The Jonah Group completed upgrades to our large health insurance client's provider-facing systems that enabled providers to view and enter National Provider Identifiers (NPIs). This changes helps our client fulfill their commitments under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
In the current environment, providers are required to obtain and manage separate identifiers for each plan with which the providers do business. The NPI is intended to eliminate the need for maintaining multiple payer-specific identifiers by requiring all covered entities to use a single national provider identifier for each provider in connection with the HIPAA standard transactions. This is intended to eliminate some of the administrative burden currently shouldered by providers and to enhance the overall efficiency of the transactions between covered entities.
The Jonah Group designed a system that enables health care providers to use both proprietary and national provider identifiers at the same time. The system moves seamlessly between the two identification schemes. This design eased the transition for providers and ensured business continuance during the transition period. National Provider Identifiers help transfer information between covered entities including Medicare, Medicaid, clearing houses, HMOs and insurance companies.

Their social mission is to promote the science and art of health care services for all Michigan residents. They provide funding to help sustain over 30 free clinics across the state of Michigan.
