The Jonah Group wins bid to upgrade a large health insurance company's provider systems to support National Provider Identifiers.

April 25, 2006 - The Jonah Group has been awarded the software contract to design and implement an upgrade to our large health insurance client's Provider Systems to support National Provider Identifiers (NPIs). These changes will help our client fulfill their commitments under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

In the current environment, providers are required to obtain and manage separate identifiers for each plan with which the providers do business. The NPI is intended to eliminate the need for maintaining multiple payer-specific identifiers by requiring all covered entities to use a single national provider identifier for each provider in connection with the HIPAA standard transactions. This is intended to eliminate some of the administrative burden currently shouldered by providers and to enhance the overall efficiency of the transactions between covered entities.

Jonah's large health insurance company client is a nonprofit organization providing health management services to hundreds of thousands of members. Their social mission is to promote the science and art of health care services for all Michigan residents. They provide funding to help sustain over 30 free clinics across the state of Michigan.

The Jonah Group has been working together successfully with this client since 2001, and continues to be engaged with them on various strategic initiatives.
