Mountain Lake was created as a distributed software development agency. As the internet emerged, we understood its potential to be the platform of the future. We focused our efforts on the financial sector and flourished for a number of years building some of the first applications on the internet.

In 1998, Bowne acquired 5 software and web development agencies to create a new company (Immersant). Mountain Lake was a key purchase because of its highly skilled software development and integration engineers, and financial industry expertise. For the next 3 years we gained additional experience with large scale (20+) end-to-end development teams, new internet technologies, and the emerging wireless market.

In May 2001, suffering acutely from the dotcom bust, Immersant decided to refocus on their core localization business and closed all application development offices.

The former Mountain Lake staff knew that there was still a major need for a nimble systems integration consultancy with our combined depth and experience. Drew, Glenn, Jeremy, and a number of former Mountain Lakers took up where we had left off before the unsuccessful merger, forming the core of our emerging venture. Having been swallowed up by the whale and ejected largely intact, we decided to name our new company "Jonah Group".

Some of our long-standing clients began to indicate that they wanted to engage with Jonah at the program level, rather than with many vendors at the project level. Jonah Group's involvement with Blue Care Network of Michigan gradually expanded until we were asked to engage in a review and remediation of one of their major data warehouses. This evolved into a major 3-year initiative, some of which was spent establishing a data warehousing practice for this style of project within the company. This was the genesis of our BI practice.

In 2008, Jonah struck a deal with interactive specialists Radiant Core to take over some of their key clients as they were exiting from this space. We spent 6 months establishing internal best practices for the creation of branded, dynamic, content-heavy websites. At the same time, we began to integrate the UI design principles and practices from the web into our overall software development method.

For the 3rd time in 8 years, Jonah Group had outgrown its existing office spaces. In December of 2008, we consolidated two disjoint offices into our current location West of the downtown Toronto core. We moved to the third floor of a turn-of-the-century industrial heritage brick-and-beam building on King Street West, just a few steps west of Spadina.

Jonah underwent a rebranding exercise under the mantra "The Beauty of Custom" to move our new-found interactive capabilities to the forefront of our brand, and to emphasize the competitive advantage that only a custom solution can bring.

Before we knew it, we were celebrating our 10th birthday! We continue to optimize our operations, to hire the best talent, and to provide each customer with both a uniquely positive experience and a tangible result that noticeably improves their business. Here's to the next 10 years!
