Collaborations

The section below describes some of the individuals / projects we're collaborating on with others.

Education / University

Mathew Zaleski

Mathew Zaleski is currently a PhD candidate in the department of computer science at the University of Toronto. His research aims to provide a new organization for a Java virtual machine that executes more quickly than possible using current interpreter technology yet is simpler than current Just In Time compiler techniques.

In the preceding 15 years, Mathew filled a number of technical, management and business positions in the software industry including at Immersant, Alias Research and IBM. He is on The Jonah Group's advisory board, and has provided strategic guidance to the company since its inception.

Greg Wilson

Greg Wilson holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh, and has worked in high-performance scientific computing, data visualization, and computer security. He is the author of "Practical Parallel Programming" (MIT Press, 1995), "Data Crunching" (Pragmatic Bookshelf, 2005), and "Three Sensible Adventures" (Annick Press, 1999), and a contributing editor with "Doctor Dobb's Journal".

Greg now teaches Computer Science half-time at the University of Toronto, where he is working on an open source course on basic software development skills, and on a lightweight project management portal for use in undergraduate education.

Over the past three years, the Jonah Group has supported both projects with funding, feedback, and ideas for new directions. Several of his former students have worked with the Jonah Group to date.

Research and Development

Christopher Chan

Chris has a B.Eng from McGill University, Montreal. He has spent several years as a software developer in the interactive computer graphics industry, having worked on commercially released 3D video games at Artech Studios, in Ottawa, Canada.

More recently he was a member of the Graphics and Visualization Department at Sarnoff Research, Princeton, NJ. There he participated in developing an advanced, distributed 3D earth visualization prototype for the US military, and experimented with pixel shaders for novel 3D rendering methods.

Collaborating with The Jonah Group, Chris is working on a research prototype for a new kind of sketching and conceptualization tool that will allow product designers, architects, or artists to quickly generate ideas and concepts in 3D without having to use a traditionally laborious CAD interface. Jonah has provided funding to see the research through its early stages of development.
